
If you’re anything like me, you’ve no doubt tried pretty much every diet out there but with little or no success. Why do most diets fail to deliver on their promises? It’s incredible how many people still teach the myth that drastically reducing your food intake will help with weight loss. What really happens is when we eat a lot less than we need we are more likely to remain the same or even gain weight. Our bodies are designed to interpret less food consumption with starvation. By regularly cutting down what we eat we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.
Studies show that thin people tend to eat foods that consist of plenty of complex carbohydrates (such as fruits and veg, pulses etc) and people who are overweight usually have diets that have a lot more fat and simple carbs. Understanding what studies tell us about what contributes to weight loss is important when designing a weight loss plan. One of the best ways to lose weight fast is to observe a low GI diet where you control just how much carbs you eat in a day, but are not too concerned about the other foods. You should however make sure you don’t overeat, by carefully managiing your portion sizes, and ensuring you get a good proportion of healthy and nutritious foods which are also low in saturated fats.
Chances are there are habits that contributed to the weight gain and our weight increase didn’t happen over night but rather over a period of months or even years. As it took so long for the weight to creep up, it will also take time to lose weight in a healthy fashion. People who don’t understand the balance between eating the right foods, taking in plenty of water, exercising and making sure they get enough sleep are easy pickings to those pushing the current fad diet, weight loss pill or quick weight loss tips. You don’t need to look far to find the latest fad diet or weight loss program. As we live in a world where we want everything now, it’s very easy to believe that there indeed magic weight loss pills to take the weight off very quickly, than to accept that we have the ability to enhance our lives and have a much better life where being overweight and unhealthy is behind us in the past.
Most diets are doomed to failure because they do not teach a balance within your body. Diets simply don’t work because they are designed around making someone or some company rich instead of producing a weight loss plan or system that will actually aid a person to lose weight.
Everybody is telling us that those who are carrying excess weight are more likely to succumb to illnesses and other serious health conditions as a result of excessive body weight. Eating high levels of saturated fat is one of the major reasons for excess body fat.
People have been taught for far too long that they need to cut down on food or count every calorie they consume in the hope that they will burn off excess fat. Believe it or not our bodies know perfectly well how to manage weight if we give them what is needed it needs to stay healthy - like getting enough sleep, drink plenty of water, wholesome and nutritious foods, and regular exercise.
Getting rid of those extra pounds is not simply about watching what you eat, you should also not overeat. Healthy portions of wholesome foods are one key to losing weight. It’s also important that you get plenty of exercise. Our bodies respond well to physical exertion!
